Ultra Newbie question

I downloaded AS this afternoon and went through the tutorials. Now I'm doing some experimentation to get familiar with it.

Here's the problem:

I started with the default character Winsor_45 and imported the standard "Sword" prop. Now I'm trying to attach the sword to the character's hand. I figured I should create a bone in the sword and make the hand bone be the parent of the sword bone. The problem is, the "Add Bone" button in the tool bar is disabled, and I can't figure out how to add a bone now. I added bones when I went through the tutorials with no problems, but now there's no add bone button to click on. What's going on? Any ideas?

on edit: Yes, I did drag the sword into the Winsor_45 bone layer, and it does show up as being in that bone layer.

Never mind! Dumb newbie mistake. I wasn't on frame 0. Sorry.

Not so dumb. I have been using AS for more than 2 years and I STILL make that mistake all the time. Glad you figured it out.
