turn a char

Post by rammstein_fan »

Well, i'm playing around with the trial, and I really like this program. It's not much difficult, but it's really powerfull. But i have one simples question: How can I flip a character? It has bones...

Flip the entire layer with the "Flip horizontally" button tool.

The layer (flip the uppermost parent layer, possibly the bones layer in your case) will flip around the layer origin, so set that somewhere appropriate first (using the Layer Origin tool).

And that won't bring me problems with more complex chars, like chars with mouth, eye lids and stuff?

As long as you have everything in one group layer or bone layer and flip that top most layer it shouldn't mess up anything already done.

Be advised this will effect layer animation. The layers get reversed. You will have to sort of "think backwards" when doing layer animation and other things. Everything is reversed so it might not work as expected.

oh :S and there is no way to copy the draw, past it in other layer, and flip only the draw? And maybe make a switch layer, with the layers " Right; Front; Left; Back? "

Is that possible?

Yes,

Study the help files and tutorials and this is explained. If you run into specific trouble we can help you out.

You seem to have the right idea you just need to try it out.

Yes it is possible. To flip the draw use the "Flip horizontally" button (In the Draw area of the Tools window). The bad new is that there is no way (AFAIK) to flip the bone structure. Again, the center of symmetry is at the place where the two arrows are crossed. You can change it using the "Set Origin" button tool.

I use it very often to draw symmetrical objects.

Well, many thanks to all of you. You have already helped me a lot. =) I'm getting used to the software, and I will certainly buy it.

Soon i will post some of my animations

I flip bone layers all the time. I assume you are referring to constructing a bone setup, where you can't just copy and flip a part of it?

I meant flip the skeleton not the bone layer.

I've found that flipping a bone layer makes moving bones a bit odd because the layer is "backwards".

Try it and see. Look at the numerical positions of a bone. Flip the layer horizontally and the number stays the same. technically if the layer is "flipped" the bones numerical position on the X should be reversed.

This is not a huge problem. I only make note of it because it has caused me some confusion when I couldn't figure out why some bones on one layer didn't seem right.
