Okay, I am a strange guy but... those bunny ears waving back and forth reminded me of the marching hammers in "Pink Floyd's The Wall".
I admit it is a stretch but it just popped into my head and would not leave.
"All in all it's just another bunny in the hole..."

Side note:
The display page for the movie indicated that my QT wasn't the latest version. I am not updating QT because it messes up some other applications. However I can play those files fine using VLC. Unfortunately I have to "cheat" and copy/paste the movie file link from the source code. This happens all the time on other sites as well.
It would be nice if there were an alternate download for situations like that.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the chat tip, Vern. Now I can see the movie. I'm with you, If the movie itself don't really need QT7 why obligate to install it?. I use firefox and have several compatible plugins that can play the file.
Oooooh!! 'Safestore' was absolutely captivating- thanks for sharing.
The Art Direction/Layouts/Character Designs/Animation are all brilliant- for that type of Style theres no cheating good drawing and you guys nailed it, Congrats!!
I kept replaying the part where the stripey jumper guy turns to use the Computer just to see how you did it!-How did you do it?! (Specifically the arm animation- are you using switch layers or is it all point motion?)
It seems like a fun project to have worked on, I can't believe you did it in six weeks! Well Done!
Could you tell us how many people were involved in Animating,Layouts,Rigging,Comp etc....
Thanks a lot for sharing your work and answering our questions, please tell your studio they are a fantastically talented group.
I find it very worrying that people have the time to analyze that sort of thing! 16 miles eh? Thats a world of fit fingers!
If in any way our films remind people of great things made buy our peers, even though it is never purposely done, then its very flattering.
We no longer use quicktime for our movies, we upload a flash format, much easier and healthier! Bunny Love was the last of a bygone era!
@donnie
Thanks for your kind words, we try to make work that we love as well as our clients, theres no point in almost killing yourself if you don't have a passion for it - that'd be a little sadistic!
As I said before everyone in the studio, including myself, work in so many different areas. From design right through to comp. I do take most of the compositing work on myself, I adore taking everyones elements and bringing it together - everyone in the studio respects each others work to such a high degree they all respect the time, energy and effort that they put into their work. Its a great team effort and one that, luckily for us, really works.
The scene you are speaking about was a mixture of different things, I believe it was not a switch layer but done wih bone and point animation. I'm sorry but I can't seem to remember fully - It was only last November but feels like a year ago!
It was a great project to produce! any work is, especially where you are inspired by your peers and are given the chance to make something fun, colourful and exciting. Six weeks is not a good schedule to work to though, the length of the film was originally 2 minuts long, but the brief wasn't quite working so our client allowed us to spice it up - thats when we added the big bad junkster it all fell into place after that, it also ballooned the running time to 4 minutes!. Its funny how things are usually held up by the lack of a small connecting idea - once you have it everything comes together. It's at those points where I get the most excited - the anticipation of creating something exciting and bettering our previous work.
The main crew for the film was 6 people, a few other people stepped in at the last moment to speed things up but the core team - 6 people.
I will tell the guys in the studio your kind words and praises.
@Mikdog.
The staff is permanent, we have all ivested too much time and energy not to be. There are times that call for freelancers on occasions but if I hire a person its on a permanent basis.
We work on jobs for many different companies, we have just finished a job for Jetix and also MTV (finished today actually) These high profile jobs tend to pay for development on our in house projects.
PS:
Just thought I'd let you know but we have put our names forward for the authoring of the AS book Fahim has mentioned. I'll keep you all posted as to what happens...
Thanks GreyKid for your quick and insightful reply!
With every new project you guys produce you always seem to push Anime Studio that little bit more toward what we've seen from the best traditional animation.
Coming from traditional animation myself I at first found AnimeStudio (then Moho) to be almost unworkable to what I wanted to Produce.
I've since worked out of course that AS can do almost anything you want it to do (some of the work on this forum alone is testament to that), you just have to be clever and organised in your use of it.
This is why I simply cannot wait to see this tutorial book that you've talked about as I'm sure I, and many others, can learn so much from your workflow and guidance (I myself currently have a four minute animation to produce, by myself, for a Client to be delivered in four weeks! I don't know how I could do it without AS, and even then I think I'm gonna strugle to produce anything good!).
Thanks again and I look forward to more GreyKid productions! (and the book!)

Just wondering why you say that the flash format is 'easier and healthier'. I've never had any problems with quicktime and it's pretty easy so... what's so much better about the flash format?
I don't mean to sound defensive, as a mac-based web surfer I prefer to see stuff in quicktime because when I want to I can step through the movie, which is something a lot of flash format movies won't let you do.
-Then again, is that the point of using it -so the average viewer can't figure out what's going on?

Hi slice11217,
We prefer flash because there has been a lot of problems in the past with viewing quicktime. Also all our web work is Flash based so being able to embed it into the flash movie is easier for us... healthier cause it's easier!
Plus the new encoding with flash makes for a great compressed movie. All in all it's just easier for us to have every thing in the one program.

This makes perfect sense. My only thought was if the raw movie file WAS available it would be handy to get to it. If you are using Flash from now on I won't even consider it a problem.
I may not... like Flash that much... but... it is THE BEST way to present online video. Any site that uses Flash for presenting video ALWAYS WORKS for me (unless it's some funky codec I don't have)

Well as long as you have an up to date player the codec usually works fine. I think I read somewhere that 97% of the worlds internet traffic has a flash player of some kind. That kind of reach to the masses cannot be ignored. It's always best to go with what almost everyone has than what a few have - more people get to see your stuff that way.
DatBoiDrew wrote:im really confused on how to animate using point animation.
Really simple DBD. Go to the frame you want your object to change and move the points to where you want them. This sets a keyframe and the points animate between the last keyframe and the one you just set. You can go to an intermediary frame and make adjustments for your arcs and breakdowns.
I do this now quite a bit to fix the enveloping at the joints on my models to fix collapsing when a joint like an elbow or knee is bent. It works great with mouths too if you want to get away from the switch layer method. I sometimes use a couple of bones for the jaw and then point animate the lips and cheeks, etc. Point animation in AS works way better than shape tweening in Flash although it is a similar process. Good luck.

thanks alot. that was helpful. so basically you're just changing the lines every frame? i have to try that out. but what do you do for your characters in anime studio? do you draw and color them in separate pieces in photoshop or draw them directly in AS?...this question was probably answer 10000000 times....

Yes and no. You are changing the drawing on the appropriate keyframes for your animation. May not be every frame (although I'm sure you didn't mean EVERY frame). I usually create my characters in AS, although I design them on paper as I am still just faster and more fluid with a pencil. I tend to use a lot of layers so I have flexibility to change things and I like to stay organized. Name everything! I use bones for the broad animation and point animation to tweak or correct things and for mouths unoless I am going for a very popping cartoon style of lipsync. Hope that helps.
