3D nose (point vs bones)

Post by Genete »

I have created a nose that can be animated in a 3D way.
I have made a simulation with point movement (brown) first and then rig the model with springy mechanisms (pink).

There are two main benefits with springy mechanism compared to point motion:
1) Translation of the points is really like a rotation in bone motion. In point motion you have to insert more keyframes or play with the interpolation to achieve a better rotation.
2) With springy mechanism I have any angle rotation already done. If you want to rotate in the opposite direction with point motion only you have to redo the movement. With springy you have it already because the model is rigged ready to rotate. Also you can stop at any angle and play with the model in that angle. With point motion you need to keyframe all the points and then the interpolation fails to reach that angle at the desired velocity. This is the most important benefit of the use of the 3D rig technique.

The main problem is that you have to create your model in a way that cna be animated with the fewest point movement.

For the moment I have an eye, a hand, a leg a WIP foot and and a nose... what happen if I combine all them together??

Please critics and comments are welcome. And also I have to receive your comments about the drawing itself. You know I'm not a very good drawer and will appreciate any comment from your experience.

Regards
Genete

The AVI file doesn't work, but I downloaded the ANME file OK -- congratulations Genete -- great work!

It looks very good! The AVI played in VLC, but wouldn't play in Media Player Classic. Gspot reports that it's an ffMPEG/ffdshow MPEG-4 codec, but the FourCC "FMP4" is unknown to my system. Perhaps if I upgrade my ffdshow, it'll work in the other programs.

Okay, I updated ffdshow, and now the file works in the rest of my video players. Windows version here.

Thank you guys for your comments.

I still being very sad with this problem with the codecs.
I'll upload the file to youtube. Anyway if the anme file works (don't do right click, just click and wait the browser response) you're free to play with it.

If you download the anme file you can see a non visible layer with a complete nose (included holes). I'm planning to include holes to show/hide them when bend the nose up and down. What do you think I can organize the shapes? Any ideas?

Bye!

Great to see you adopt bones as good means for animating. It really is.
sweet rig BTW. :)

This stuff just blows my (small and fragile) mind    . Is the line width of the nostrils during the turn, have to be set manually or do the bones control that as well :?:

Oh by the way I did not have any trouble downloading or viewing the files.

Oh no! line width and opacity is controlled by hand (for the moment  it is a joke ... mmm maybe?)
Bones controls only main rotation of shapes.

Please test a new update:

http://genetita.googlepages.com/nose-hole.mov

The nose -hole is moved by hand as a first approaching to a bone controlled movement. Also there is a layer ordering and a lot of line width and opacity hand made.
I'll post the anme file once it is finished.

Please let me know you opinion.
Best
