The lecture hall

This is modelled directly upon the Royal Society lecture hall in Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World."

Admittedly, that was another continent, and fifty years later.

Ah, well.

At least the Union Jack has been replaced by an 1858 American flag.

Note that you have to imagine both sides of the screen positively filled with a seated audience.

Hope the color works for you? I aim to walk the line between offering stimulating colors and providing a muted backdrop for the action.

This is my idea of balance...

Sometimes I think maybe I can actually pull this off...

Here's an early test of the "Lost World" audience composited back into the lecture hall...

Happily, the flicker artifact from the ancient 1925 film is actually a feature, not a bug! I wanted to add the romantic flicker of gaslight.

Well, the audience brings it with them.

Now, if only I can figure out how to animate the size and brightness of the halos on the gaslights... !

You do great work!

Maybe copy and paste different variations of brightness and contrast
like I did here. This is a gif file but couldn't you insert each image
into AS and set keyframe timing for the right effect.

Just a thought.
You could drag this to your desktop and open with preview. There when you view the drawer you have all five images to experiment with.

Righto, I'll try this.
When I repeat your experiment, I'll want to try to synch the ambient room brightness with the changing flicker level in the audience.
In addition, I'll apply a brightness level to individual lights and adjust the size of the halo around each one.
I will need to be subtle.
I want gaslight that charms, but not something triggers epileptic seizures in sensitive individuals !
