Sharp Edges for Moho

Post by KaiJ »

Hey guys I'm gonna suggest a feature that Moho could have, I would like it if in the future we could have the option to do sharp edges instead of rounded off ones with the free hand strokes, like you could do in toon boom harmony and adobe animate without needing to make these edges super thin. I think it would be very beneficial for people because some art styles could have more depth with sharp edges.

not sure how well this would actually work in moho, to be fair... the whole stroke system is built around those rounded vector ends, so a sharp option might look a bit wierd on thicker lines. i reckon it'd be handy for some styles though, just wonder how much of the core they'd have to rip up to do it.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with giving it a try. I feel that it is possible, due to some other animation softwares like toon boom harmony and Adobe animate being able to do it.

harmony and animate manage it, true, but they're not built on the same bones as moho. it's like sharpening an old spade, looks a ten minute job till you find the whole thing's held together with rust and hope... 🙂 still, stick it in as a proper feature request, the devs definately won't see it if it just sits on here.

Moho has an option to disable round corners in the Style window, but it doesn't work.

I seem to recall it worked many, MANY years ago, but if it ever did, it's been broken for a very long time.

I don't think I ever submitted a bug report about it, but I will do so now that I'm thinking about it.

I'd also like to see options for stroke inside and outside the curve, like in Harmony. There are useful joint techniques that rely on having this feature.

It's round end caps, and it still works. There's never been a sharp corners option in Moho, although there are convoluted ways to achieve them, mostly using masking.

Ah, of course...end caps for open paths. Thanks for clarifying, Wes. (Derp...I believe we had this conversation before.)

But, yeah, we still need a Sharp Stroke Corners option. A nice bonus would be the option to retract the pointy corners to create beveled corners. (In addition to the current rounded corners default.)

In Illustrator, I think the beveled corner is a threshold setting based on the corner's angle. Sorry, it's been a while since I last used Illustrator, so I might be mistaken. But even if that's not how it works in Illustrator, maybe it should be in Moho. :D

Yes, this is something. I really hope happens in the near future :D. I think we should try to get someone to do a script to make it possible in the meantime.

Do you know where the proper feature requests are? and if so can you send me a link?

You can submit a support ticket on this page:

Lost Marble Support Center

BTW, the devs do look at these pages, but yes, requests and bug reports are more likely to be seen when you submit a support ticket.

I just sent out a ticket, with the addition of the beveled corners you also asked for, hope it goes well. :D
