Which (AI) software should I use to convert my 2d Moho files into rigged 3d models?

Post by Doc9 »

I have Moho files with 2d models(already animated with bones) that I would like to convert to real 3d models. Which (AI) software would you recommend to convert the 2d models to rigged 3d models?
In addition, which AI software would you recommend if I want to use AI animations from a catalog that I can copy to the rigged 3d model? It would save me much time if I could use walking(foremost for humans) or dancing animations from a catalog.
Is it necessary to use Blender when I want to export(maybe PNG files) the animations or can I already export the animations in the AI software? I have never worked before with AI and I want to find out how AI can make my life easier in 2026.

Don't.

First: it doesn't work like that. You can't just "make 3D out of 2D". There's no software for that.

Second: using AI is unethical on every level.

While you cannot directly convert 2D vectors into actual 3D models, if your goal is to use 3D motion/animation catalogs (like BVH files for walking or dancing) to drive your 2D characters in Moho, there is a practical workflow solution!
Instead of trying to convert 2D into 3D, you can bring 3D motion data into your 2D Moho puppets.
I developed a toolset called the Weaver Series to solve this exact pipeline problem:
LayerWeaver (Krita Plugin): Helps you easily draw and set up your 2D character assets with pre-set alignment markers.
MotionWeaver & RigWeaver (Moho Lua Scripts): Converts 3D motion data (BVH files from Mixamo, TDPT, etc.) into 2D bone transformations and automatically builds/binds the rig onto your Moho character.
This allows you to take existing 3D motion catalogs (like dance or walk cycles) and automatically apply them to your 2D characters inside Moho without needing to hand-keyframe everything or build full 3D models.
If you are interested, you can check out the tools and workflow here:

Hope this helps give you an alternative approach to leveraging motion catalogs for your 2D rigs!
