Imported numbered files always end up in reverse order

Post by Maestral »

I never got used to this but am now dealing with a lot of numbered png's, which always end up in reverse order (lower numbers at the bottom) upon import. So, manually rearranging the files/layers became rather time consuming. I've tried searching the forum first but to no avail. I've checked if there would be a script to help with this but to no avail as well.

One way could be changing the numbering order on files, but since these numbers reference something, that's not exactly an option.

Does anybody have some workaround for this manual reordering?

EDIT
An idle mind simply requires some stimulation x)
Import the numbered files in PS. The order would look the same but PS has an option in Layer/Arrange/Reverse. When such psd is imported (individually) in Moho, the layer order remains.

If you drag them from an open folder on your desktop into the project, make sure they're sorted by name, then invert that.

Here's a dumb trick I use when I need to import a sequence layered with the low number at the top.

1. Import the sequence using Image Sequence. The result is a single file that plays from 1 to X on the timeline.
2. Select the Image Sequence file, right-click over it, and choose Convert To Switch. The result is a Switch Layer with layers sorted in top-down order.
3. When I don't want this as a Switch Layer, I convert the layer to an FBF Layer or move the image layers to a new Group.

When I need the sequence layered bottom up, with the low number at the bottom, I do this...

1. Import the sequence using Image Sequence.
2. Select the Image Sequence, double-click the layer to open Layer Settings.
3. Select Play Backwards from the Image tab. Click Ok.
4. Convert the layer to a Switch Layer. The layer order should be reversed.
5. When I don't want this to be a Switch layer, blah, blah, blah... :D

Hope this helps.

Oh, wow! I don't typically drag and drop files into Moho, so I never considered this method, but I just tried it, and it's so much easier than what I was doing. I guess my method really is a dumb trick! :D

Thanks for sharing your tip, slowtiger!

Additional note: I know slowtiger works with Mac, but I dragged my image sequence from a reverse-sorted Windows desktop folder, and it worked fine!

Thanks, slowtiger! It worked like a charm.
This is the craziest hack of them all.

Thanks, Greenlaw
Somehow, I expected the order would be the same as in Import, after converting to Swith so I skipped that routine. However, now, when I tried it - Moho crashed during the conversion. Twice. In my case, it could be due to 300+ png's (of all sizes) in the file, although the sequence I imported and tested on was in a separate folder and with just 10 png's. Still, as a note to others - Save it before you go for it.

I hope someone could come up with a solution for arranging layers within Moho.
