Brush Stabilization by offsetting stroke to cursor

Post by JoelMayer »

One of the things i really wish for Moho's freehand tool is a more "standard" brush stabilization option. Atm, Moho seems to somehow smooth out a stroke after it's drawn. Most art programmes simply kind of "delay" the stroke from the cursor while drawing. This leads to a much smoother experience because the brush that you lay down is also the one that you end up getting. With Moho it's kind of jarring that you lay down a stroke and then have to wait till it "gels" until you get the final result.

To compare here is how the stabilization looks in Clip Studio:

And here's Moho

Hope this makes sense. I'd recommend to the devs to test out the stroke stabilization in both Clip Studio and Toon Boom, both are excellent and a good point of reference.

I have been using lazy nezumi. Now works with Moho.

Yea that's nice but i'm on a Mac :lol: Didn't even know Lazy Nezumi was still around... that's so 2005.

Seriously though i think nowadays it can be expected any pro-level software that you draw in to have a good stabilization option.

I swear by Lazy Nezumi. If anything is annoying about it, it's that the developer updates it maybe too frequently. Photoshop has built-in stabilization now, but Lazy Nezumi is still better. :wink:

That said, Re: Moho Freehand stabilization, yes, I agree about the smoothness issue. To deal with this, I draw a little more slowly than normal, and it seems to work fine for me. I think the recent Freehand update is 100 times better and more usable than what we had before Moho 14, but it could still be better. :)

I hadn't known Lazy Nezumi was compatible with Moho. Thanks for the tip, @lucasfranca! I'm going to test that this afternoon.

I'm finally getting around to trying Lazy Nezumi with Moho. The first preset I tried is Pulled String, which I use regularly in Photoshop. I had Moho Smoothing turned down to zero to ensure I was only getting the effect from Lazy Nezumi, and it worked as expected. Nice!

For fun, I tried the Pulled Saw preset, and I was surprised to see this worked perfectly too!

@lucasfranca, thanks for the tip!

One funny thing I'm seeing is that the pulled string affects any tool I use in Moho, not just Freehand. ATM, I think I'll need to toggle Lazy Nezumi on and off as needed, but maybe that won't be necessary? TBD
