disable keyframes

sometimes I want to add some animation in between key frames. is there a way to disable the subsequent key frames so that it doesn't affect the current animation when i add more key frames in between?

In general, first add keyframes in the middle between what you wnt to preserve, eitehr by clicking or by "add key". Then add animation between these new keys.
