how do i select a new color?

Post by peter wassink »

This aspect of Moho has been puzzling me ever since before moho changed its name into animestudio.

i cannot seem to get a grip on how moho works with regards to color and linestyle.
How do you select a color for the drawing tool?
or how to use "style 1" & "style 2"

i had hoped some improvement regarding this in the UI with Moho14, but to me it is still is as confusing.

If i select a fill and stroke color the freehand tool will still use the previous color settings?
I have no clue what i am doing wrong, it is very confusing.

Could someone perhaps point me to a good tutorial that thoroughly explains how and why this works as it does?

I suggest you start with simple experiments. For example, make a color-filled square with a stroke. Then select the square and change its color and stroke. Repeat until it starts to makes sense, then make a color-filled circle without a stroke. Then select the circle and add a stroke. Then draw with the blob brush. Then change the color of the blob brush. And so forth.

Keep experimenting. At a certain point the logic of the system will make sense.

By the way, pay a lot of attention to the checkboxes. Each checkbox does something different.

Good luck!

Thank you very much Hoptoad, I very much appreciate your swift help!
I had hoped a tutorial would have made things clear ...but i'm afraid this is gonna take me a long time to untangle.

Boy what a UI nightmare this stylepanel is! I'm a bit surprised it never got fixed.
But at least i got a step further knowing this now... and that its not me.
Now i'm gonna take your Good luck whish literally

I struggled with the same issues for a while. I learned about 80% of what the Style panel could do, and that was enough to make my characters and animate. But the 20% I didn't understand would cause me trouble from time to time.

So you don't have to master the Style panel to animate with Moho. But you almost certainly need to know how to change a shape's fill color, stroke color, and stroke width.

I eventually learned the parts I didn't understand. I agree; the user interface could be simpler. But it is logical -- once you understand it.

If you encounter a specific problem, post about the specific problem. For example, "Why does my shape not have a stroke?"
