SVG IMPORTED

Post by LeroyGO »

Hey guys I´m trying to import an svg file from another Software, in this case is Clipstudio, so when I´m importing in Moho many points aren´t welded and this is a big issue for me because I need to import many svg files for animate different poses.

Let me show u about that.

This is the svg file.

And here when I´m trying fillin it.

When filling with color, new vectors are created without the originals being welded correctly.

And of course the vectors created don´t respect the shape of the model.

Hi,

I'm assuming you're using the Paint Bucket tool for this. Paint Bucket works in two modes: when it finds a valid closed curve, it will create a shape using that curve. However, if it does not find a valid closed curve or when there are overlapping curves, it will auto-trace the region it finds and then create a new curve for a shape. This second mode is messy but it's the only way Moho can resolve this situation.

To me, it sounds like your imported SVG art does not have valid closed curves or there are path overlaps that's confusing the Paint Bucket tool. If you're pretty sure the curves were closed when drawn in Clip Studio, you might have to try a different setting to preserve this on export. In Illustrator, for example, there are specific options that must be selected before exporting. (Even with Illustrator, you must be certain you're exporting closed paths. Ideally, you would fill and stroke the shapes there too.)

FYI, I would not use the Paint Bucket for artwork that will be rigged and deformed with bones. It's cleaner to use the Create Shape tool to select the enclosed path and have create the shape directly. The Paint Bucket is more useful when you're creating Frame By Frame animation in Moho using the Freehand tool, or otherwise drawing static images with the Freehand tool.

What is your intended CSP to Moho workflow? Most Moho animators using CSP use it to export bitmap images for Moho, not SVG curves. IMO, even though CSP features a vector layer and vector pen tools, it's really not sufficient for creating pure vector drawings for SVG output. For SVG exports, I would look into using a dedicated vector drawing program.

Most Moho users working with vector art in Moho will create the art directly inside Moho. This way, you can have better control over the number and optimal placement of the points, and Moho can do a better job deforming and animating it. If you're going to work with vector art, I highly recommend working with the native tools rather than importing SVG artwork.

Thank u so much for ur quickly answer and yes I have used Paint Bucket just only for testing.
It's true, realizing from your answer that ClipStudio's vector works better internally than when exporting to svg. Since filling color obviously makes it perfect regardless of the vector being unified. Thanks so much, now I can take another better alternative without complicating myself too much. :)

I loved using CSP's vector tools for my web comics...it makes it so much easier to edit things or re-purpose items at different scales...but, yeah, I don't think I tried exporting SVG from CSP. This was mainly because CSP's vector tools are primarily designed for linework, not fills. (TBH, it's been a while since I last drew a comic in CSP but that's how I remember it.)

So which vector programs do work well with Moho?

When I was busy on Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, I used Adobe Illustrator to create a lot of screen graphic elements as SVG and imported these elements to Moho, but whenever I animated a 2D story segment in Moho for Fast , I was using either bitmap art (usually from Photoshop provided by our art department,) or vector art I drew directly inside Moho, or a combination. Based on comments elsewhere in this forum, another popular vector drawing program that works well with Moho is Affinity Designer.

I imagine almost any drawing program that has full support for vector strokes and vector fills, and can export SVG, should work with Moho. Moho also supports .ai format but I don't think this as reliable as SVG because the import process alters the construction of the paths.

As mentioned earlier, if the intent is to create vector drawings for bone rigging and deformation in Moho, the best results come from using Moho's Add Points tool. And if you're going for a 'painted' or 'photo-based' look, bitmap with custom warp meshes created in Moho is the way to go. And you can always combine the two: for example, create a path with a vector brush stroke and use Image Texture to apply a bitmap fill. My old Moho work for Puss-In-Boots and The Croods was created this way. (My 2017 reel has a lot of these vector-bitmap hybrid examples.)

For painted or otherwise bitmap images to use in Moho, the popular programs are Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint, and ProCreate. (Note: Krita is free (donations accepted,) and ProCreate is iPad only.)

Hope this helps.
