Maximum size of imported video?
During the recent project I ran into trouble when I imported larger-than-usual video files into Moho (for doing pans and zooms more easily). The files were Apple ProRes and opend in Quicktime on both OS 10.11 and 10.15, but in Moho I only got a bunch of striped garbage. The files were more than 9000px wide.
Is there an official size limit? It's not in the manual.

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
Just a guess: Moho's export size is limited to 9000 x 9000 pixels so maybe that's the largest image size it can handle?
BTW, I got the above info from this page:
Moho Pro/Debut Full Comparison
Edit: this is also mentioned on page 531 of the user manual. Not a definitive answer of course but I'm thinking that's it.

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
Here's something you can try:
See if you can import a single image to Moho that's larger than 9000 x 9000 pixels. If Moho allows that, next try converting the .mov file to a PNG image sequence and using that instead of the .mov file.
Alternatively, try recompiling the .mov file to 9000 x 9000 pixels or less. That's probably not ideal but maybe this resolution will be high enough for your project? I mean, under normal circumstances, 9000 x 9000 is pretty darn high res.

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
Usually I try to avoid extreme dimensions like this, but the project was done in a hurry without much planning. BTW I know of at least one artist who's working in these dimensions regularly, he creates large animation loops to be exhibited in galleries and installations.
I was looking at video import options (p. 532) only, maybe that number should repeated there. I'll the magic 9000 limit later. Thx!

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
FWIW I've successfully imported pngs of 30,000 * 9,000 px into Moho
Re: Maximum size of imported video?
Hi Slowtiger,
Where do you get such large format video files to test?
I created a simple text animation on static photo background, 16,384 x 9,216 pixel MP4 file in AE. ( I think 16,384 is the limit for exporting mp4 from Adobe Media Encoder as my project was 19,200 x 10,800 px)
It imports in to Moho fine (of course slow moving through the timeline). I have 16Gb RAM.

The test video file is here:

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
BTW Surprisingly I couldn't play the file in VLC (just black screen playing), but Moho could see it

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
Thanks for checking that ggoblin! So in this situation, Moho is apparently limited by the hardware it's running on.
This is good to know. (Plus, I wouldn't have had the patience to try a file that large.)

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
Yes I was most impressed by Moho. No artificial limits, it did the best it could given the hardware it was running on.
But I was disappointed by VLC. Its my go to app for all video, it usually plays anything you throw at it. It even seems to reindex corrupted files on the fly. But this time, whilst still playing, it displayed a black screen. This didn't change when I turned hardware acceleration off, so limits of the hardware decoding were not to blame.
Also disappointed with adobe media encoder - it resized my 19,200 x 10,800 px project to 16,384 x 9,216 px with no error or warning messages. I think this resizing is down to the limits of the codec (mp4) as when I chose Quicktime ProRes 422 it indicated it would resize to 19,200 x 8,192 px with the preview render showing black vertical bars used for padding the 19,200 width to keep the aspect ratio correct. So it seems ProRes is limited to 8,192 px height.
I wonder if Moho behaves differently depending on the codec used?

Well I couldn't even find such a large format test video on the net.. had to create it myself in AE.(Plus, I wouldn't have had the patience to try a file that large.)

Re: Maximum size of imported video?
BTW Thank you Greenlaw for pointing me towards AE for motion graphics type animations. Things I was pulling my hair out trying to do in Moho are so straight forward in AE. And the converse is also true, things I wouldn't know how to even begin to do in AE are easy in Moho. It really is horses for courses.
What I haven't done yet is use both together in a project. The next time I have a project that includes both character animation and motion graphics, I will reread your advice on rendering layer comps in Moho to import into AE.
