Combining 12fps and 24fps Timelines in one Project?

Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

Combining 12fps and 24fps Timelines in one Project?

Post by gingie »

I've recently made the jump to Moho 13 and I'm working on an animation. I've decided I like the look of 12fps (on twos) best for the characters, but I want to have camera moves and some background elements at 24fps so they dont feel jagged.

Animation so far - I think the camera move is a bit of a headache.

I'm unsure how to combine the frame rates. I understand I can work with the step tool set to 2 in a 24fps document to imitate 12fps, however it feels a lot more difficult and messy to work on as I'd have to consciously avoid the alternating frames.

Are there any scripts that can turn the timeline to a different frame rate only for certain objects? Or a way to change a 12fps scene into 24fps after it is completed that automatically doubles the length rather than it being at double speed? Ideally I'd want to be able to switch back and work natively in 12fps on my characters at any time but I presume that isn't possible. I am considering simply adding camera moves in post but I would have to work in 24fps for shots with constant moving backgrounds anyway.

Any ideas appreciated, thank you!

you can use different intervals in the keyframes to achieve that.
I made a tutorial some years ago, maybe it can help you:

Thanks Víctor! I like how you did the swimming animation with some parts on 1s. I suppose I should work at 24fps with the intervals set to 2 by default with the potential to set them to 1 when I need extra fluidity... This helps a lot!
