Moho 13.5 result video export not good

Post by WargaNetLife »

Hello, I want to ask, why is the video export result from moho 13.5 low quality.
Though I've used the exact same settings as in moho 13.
Maybe you can check this attachment. It can be seen from the significant difference in file size.

Please help me

In order to try and narrow down the problem...

What operating system did you use? Win / Mac ?
What resolution was the project?
What type and specification did you use for the Render?
Moho 14.3 » Win 11 Pro 64GB » NVIDIA GTX 1080ti 11GB
Moho 14.3 » Mac mini 2012 8GB » macOS 10.15 Catalina

Your attachment doesn't show that you used the exact same settings in both. So we have no way of knowing what may have been the cause.

I can't see a noticeable quality difference between the two exports. File size doesn't matter.

How about this, this is the result of each render
Please check the video in 1080
Look at background

well -- I took a screen grab of the initial frame in each, plugged those grabs into PS and set one to blend mode "difference" -- the only thing that really stands out is the ".5" -

what video render options did you use (e.g. MP4, M4V, ..) in each?

SOLVED Sir.

It turns out that using DoF makes it look bad.
And using DoF affects file size.
Render Without DoF 1.56MB
Render With DoF 980KB

Without DoF

With DoF

Sorry for interrupting the time.

Thank You

More love with Moho 13.5 :D

I use MP4 format
Because there are no other than that MP4/M4V rendering options.

But, which one is better?

I don't use MP4 for final output, but I have done a couple of quick tests and there is definitely a difference. The mere fact that exactly the same file encodes at 3 times lower bitrate suggests something has to give.

On 12/13 you have the Quality slider. On 13.5 we do not. I was able to get a similar bitrate to 13.5 when I reduced the 13 render Quality to around 65. Do we know what the 'hidden' Quality setting is on 13.5?

That quality slider was likely from access to QuickTime, which 13.5 no longer has. There is a quality setting in the exporter settings file in AppData, but changes to that do not seem to have any affect on bitrate or file size.

If you can't visually tell the difference, I'm not sure it matters. And if bitrate does matter, maybe export as image sequence and assemble in a video editor with more options?

MP4 and M4V are video containers, and by themselves, they do not affect quality. The main difference is that M4V can use DRM protection. For most users, having DRM protection probably isn't very meaningful.

The quality part comes with the codec that's used in the container. AFAIK, Moho 13.5 (Windows) offers only H.264, which is a standard codec for consumer quality videos. I believe Moho's H.264 settings are fixed and you can't adjust them. IMO, it's fine for uploading to YouTube, but it's not a professional quality codec.

Personally, I would output PNG image sequence from Moho. This will give you the highest quality animation that Moho is capable of, with no compression artifacts. The frames may then be compiled into a movie file using a compositing program or a video editor. This is a typical workflow for animation production, and, depending on the software, it should offer more output options to choose from (i.e., containers, codecs, and settings.)*

I like to use either After Effect or Fusion for compositing, and Vegas Pro 18 for video editing, but almost any compositing program or editor should give you more output options.

In Vegas, I like to use the HEVC in an MP4 container for uploading to Vimeo or YouTube. I use the 10-bit/Rec 709 version, which is a higher color depth than what Moho can output, but it ensures I get the correct black levels. For archival video, I used MagicYUV for years because it's compact and lossless, but lately I've been trying different ProRes options. Still deciding if I'm going to switch. (Vegas Pro 18 on Windows supports HEVC in MP4, and the most common options for ProRes.)

But if you don't have these options, H.264 should be fine if you use a program that lets you optimize the codec settings to suite your needs. It doesn't really matter which container you use, but MP4 is more common. (For editing, I still like to use the AVI container; it's very versatile and most programs support it.)

Hope this helps.

*There are many other good reasons for doing this, but this post is already getting too long and windy. :)
