Why is it if I use the freehand tool with auto stroke on the stroke is there but if I use the Add point tool with auto stroke on the stroke is not drawn?

add point doesn't create a shape from a path unless the path is closed (i.e. fillable). Use "create shape" on the path for just a stroke.
