Import vector image sequence

Post by Knacki »

Hi all,

great forum!

I am searching for a solution to import vector image sequences, which I need for my workflow between Animate, Flash, 3D packages etc.
Pixels are no option, vectors only!
Vectors are very simple. Mostly strokes, no fills, definitely no gradients.
Base format is swf - no other option.

Importing swf directly is a moho no go, as I understood, or is there probably a way, a script, a workaround, please!? I would even pay for a decent script.
AI files via old "import image sequence" script from anime 9.5 are always maximized - why? No way found to change that?
New "import image sequence" doesn't support vectors at all
SVG files via old DR_loopSwitch1314083689 script and switch layer is working somehow, but swf have to be converted via Sothink Decompiler which I have to buy if there is no other option. Horrible to imagine wasted time working with thousands of frames this way.
Flash CC batch svg exporter script is some of worst workarounds ever and exported SVG's are not supported by Moho??!

I would like to get Moho 12 into my pipeline as I like the magnetic tool and the easy rigging possibilities. And finally there is frame by frame animation, yeah!!
So I upgraded.
But now it took me more than one day trying to get it into my pipeline and still no convincing solution.

I really do hope there are some old anime guys out there having a magic trick for me?

This is something I've done a few times in the past with my very old version of Flash (Flash 8! Never saw the need to upgrade after that..). I never found an easy way. This is what I did:

1. Broke the flash file up into small segments
2. Decided on what the key poses and breakdowns were in each segment
3. In AI format, export any frames showing significant differences between poses
4. Export an AVI sequence of each segment for reference in Moho
5. Import AI images and AVI sequences into Moho
6. Re-engineer stuff using AVI clips as reference
7. Go crazy zapping AI nodes all day

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but often, I have to say, it was just easier to re-build the vector stuff in Moho. I haven't had to do any of this for a while, thank god, but at least now you can import SVG. If you CAN convert Flash frames to SVG I'd go that route.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Thanks for your answer jahnocli,

This is a tough path to go!
Hahaha - about flash is almost same here. Stuck with MX2004.
For tiny things new Animate can be a help, and it's included in creative cloud, but nothing can beat this old Macromedia work.
And the rest is pretty much easier in Moho.

Ok. If there is no secret script or anything, than it will be:
Swf - Sothing Decompiler to SVG - SVG to Moho - DR_loopSwitch1314083689 script to get SVGs into switch layer - work in Moho - export to swf again.

Well that's serious!

Yeah. And one of the things about going backwards and forwards like this is you throw away all optimisation and the files get huge for no good reason. It wasn't uncommon for me to find a small Flash file become a huge Flash file once I'd saved it back into swf...Happy times! Fortunately that bandwidth thing is less of a problem these days. Good luck with your project anyway -- be interested to see some of the finished article if you can show it.

Thanks for your wishes jahnocli.
Data size is not that big issue though.
Final destination won't be internet, vector files will be converted.
That#s the reason why I have to stay in vector.
When Moho finally gonna make it's way into production, I'll try to show something.
Actually blenders grease pencil is getting really attractive, too. Better stroke sculpting, which I really do love but far away from Moho's easiness. ;)
