Rigging trouble

Post by dreal »

Hi,

I would like to know how i would go about rigging and animating this character because i keep getting line
breaks. Maybe the character is drawn wrong for animation? I tried breaking it apart and i tried to keep the character parts together but no luck.I'm using Anime studio 9.5. Thank you to anyone that can help me with this problem.Image

Hi dreal,
My first suggestion would be to go through the tutorials that come with 9.5 and then look at the characters that come with Anime Studio and study how they're rigged. By studying them and comparing to the tutorials you can see what the limitations and strengths of each approach is. I can't remember what version that smart bones were introduced in and you don't say if you have pro or not, but smart bones can really help with animating more extreme positions.

The character as drawn implies that you have the following layers
  • head
  • body
  • tail
That can be animated most simply with
  • bind the head to a single head bone using layer binding
  • bind the body to a skeleton of bones (see the tutorials) using either flexi binding or point binding
  • bind the tail to either a single tail bone using layer binding or to a couple of bones using flexi-binding
The next step would be to allow the eyes and mouth to move. To do that I personally would
  • bind each eye to a separate bone (if you do this you'll want to parent the bones to the head bone and use the transformation tool to move them. In 9.5 you may be able to use the manipulation tool, but I forget.)
  • use switch layers for different mouth expressions.
Those are just my suggestions. Hope that helps.

Here'a a tutorial I did on binding that might help

Here is a video to help you. Once you get used to the 4 different way to set up a rig. They become natural to you.

The four are:

Bone rig with flexible binding.

Bone rig with regional binding.

a Bone that is layer bound

Bones that are point bound.
