Is there a way to reset a layer after adjusting it?

Post by medic5678 »

Let's say I have a layer, a bone or group layer containing several other layers. In this case, we'll say an entire character. I want to put some weight on this character. In my current model, this means I've got to widen the drawings in several layers with the transform points tool. I could just use the transform layer tool, and widen the entire character bone layer. When I do this, I note that the scale - x,y,z values are different. The character looks fine.

However, when I go to move the character, limbs stretch and weird warping happens. What would be very convenient would be a way to adjust the layer back to 1,1,1 on the x,y,z values WITHOUT altering the shape.

Is there a way to do this?

I suppose by "put some weight on" you mean to apply some squash on the character. This is something only done for a few frames during impact (on the ground).

My method: on the topmost layer (group or bone) I adjust the origin so it meets the ground. On the frame before impact I set a key for scale, the same some 3 or 4 frames after. This is my "reset" or default stretch. On the impact frame I stretch a side of the modify square and press alt the same time - this way the character gets stretched proportionally. Since I put the origin on the ground, no other adjustment is necessary.

As for additional animation: just do it the normal way outside the stretch frames, and inside adjust points or bones if necessary.

I don't mean squashing him down. i mean adjusting him wider. Then I'd like to keep him looking that way as the "new" him... so this is not a timeline thing. The question is simply the distortion that occurs should he, for example.. raise his arms.

what I'd like to do is then be able to adjust the layers to 1:1:1, and keep him looking wider... so it would effectively adjust all the drawings. This would be a much faster way for me to change my character's look without going in and working each individual layer. I hope this request falls on the ears that could grant it in a future version.

or if there's a utility that does this, I'd love to see it!
