A few Questions about Rigging

Post by JoelMayer »

Hi there

I'm making progress with my Character, even though the Masking Layer Bug is a bit of a turn off but i'm forging ahead nonetheless :)

I have few quesitons now before i proceed:

- I'm currently doing a Head Turn which goes very nice. I'm using Smart Bone Dials. However, other Controllers like say for example Eyeblinks are not looking quite right when the Head is turned. Is there a way to mix these Morphs, so that if the Head is turned, the Blink will be adjusted accordingly?

- I want to do a separate Rig for the 3/4 and Sideviews anyway, but i want the character still to be able to move its head a bit. Is there a way to copy the head in the ending position of the Smartbone over to the new rig so i don't have to rebuild the 3/4th head again and try to match it to the front view?

- This is probably not possible, but i guess there's no way to mirror a Head turn from a Smartbone Dial so i could just copy the pose over to the other side (Left/Right i.e.)

Hope these questions make sense and thanks for your help!

Just my two cents. :)

Make sure all the points are keyframed in both actions. One tip for blending actions, it's best to keep point motion on one axis (eg., head turn on the x-axis, eyeblink on the y-axis) so that the blending is more predictable.

You can copy the point keys from one layer to another, but the points must be from the same basic face points. Otherwise, the points will be a mess.

You probably figured out that you can't simply flip the points to do this. The usual way is to move the points manually to mirror the other side, which is quite tedious to say the least.

I've developed my own method that speeds this process, but it does involve several steps and uses a script. See this thread as a starting point: Head construction points

Ideally those scripts could form the basis to automate this process, but my own scripting skill aren't that sophisticated, so hence, the multi-step process. It's still a chore, but it's much easier than pushing points.
