Stuck on Exercise

I am a newcomer to Anime Studio 10 Pro and so please have mercy. I am working my way through the Exercises in Troftgruben's book "Learning Anime Studio." In that book, there is an exercise whereby I am interpolating a switch layer between an open and closed mouth. The directions are straightforward: you just choose the closed mouth on frame 1, click on frame 12 and switch to the open mouth, go back to the beginning of the timeline and play. It says the mouth will be closed, but it's wide open for me. I've tried this a dozen times. What am I missing? Or what are the instructions missing? Thanks much.

Don't know the book, and this may not be the problem, but if you have a switch sub-layer selected it will override what is in the viewport - make sure you have the parent, or some other layer, selected...

That was the problem! I was clicking on the layers themselves rather than the parent. Thanks so much for the prompt help.
