First attempt at animation

I'm following the instructions on a Youtube tutorial- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VSTryy-Q1k --and can't get the bones to move the object. I tried starting again from the beginning but it won't work. What step am I missing? Here's a screenshot of where I got to.

Maybe you don't have the Bone bind with some points or layers?
Try to get at frame one and then move the desired bone with the "bone manipulate" tool.
My first attempt was with this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8aC6YYlwjE ) it was really helpfully for understanding all the functions and tools
