Making Characters for Animation
Hi, right now I am using anime studio pro 9 (about to get pro 10) and I was wondering how I should make/set up my characters for my animation. Should I make multiple sides of my character (front, 3/4, back, etc.) or should I use smart bones so my character has multiple "sides"? Please help (also please do answers for pro 9 and pro 10).
Re: Making Characters for Animation
(AS 10), I have started putting the time into the smartbone setups. The only switch layers I use now are for hand sets and mouth. Head turns, eyeblink etc are all done with smartbones...mind you...before you make ANY rig you need to sit down and workout what you need the character to do, then put the work into the character. No point in making a rig that does all this neat stuff that no one will ever see.

Re: Making Characters for Animation
First, make a storyboard of your animation and analyse which views you're actually going to need.
Then decide if it's worth having them in a single rig (it's a lot more work than doing them separately). Often having separate rigs for separate views is just fine.
Of course, it all depends on style, sometimes it's nice to have all views in a single rig, but I'd only do it if it's a very simple design. Otherwise go for a separate rig for each view.
