Selling rigs/characters - Question

Post by Joofville »

Hey Guys!

I need some advice, in an effort to raise some funds to purchase software and hardware upgrades. Would it be viable to sell Anime Studio character rigs sort of similar to what cartoonsolutions.com does? I'm already working on a Zombie character in multiple poses (front, 3/4, size and 3/4 back ) including rigging with bones, mouth position switch layers and various hand poses in switch layers. Is there a market for this kind of stuff or am I wasting my time? If so, what's a good price to ask $5.00 for a character including the rights to use it where ever one wishes etc?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's viable right now, but CP could use a lot more AS content imho. Buyers like having a lot of choices. You'll need to release a number of characters packs over time to make it profitable.

Good luck. I'm sure yours will be one of higher quality products. 8)

Well I was looking into making it a side line job for a few pennies, not as a main source of income.

I was thinking of doing the same thing myself. I learned a lot from that Dracula Jr. model and the thanksgiving turkey one. Thought it would be fun to do a few as well.

The nice thing about those items and others is that they are fairly generic while having a certain amount of character.

Can't see any reason why you shouldn't do it though.

I just wanted to mention that I think the Character Wizard potential is way overlooked, the bodies suck but if someone sold a bundle of heads, hands, feet etc. to add-in that would be a big seller and give a lot of users more flexibility to create things themselves. If there were model presets and actions included that would be perfect. I can draw most of what I imagine but need to work on my hands the most. I definitely wouldn't mind some help there. You could include hooves, claws, all sorts of things that would really spice up the wizard. I'm doing this for my own work, especially for secondary characters where spending much time on a character to get even 2 views is more time I have left on this planet.
