Image changes shape after tracing

Hi Guys,

I have this logo that I have to animate to have all the parts move individually. When I import very straight and tight images and then trace them the lines get all wobbely and not square. I have tried importing the file as EPS and SVG but the same weird disturbance occurs.I have included some before and after pictures.



Its probably something stupid like 'uncheck this thing' but I really can't find the solution!

Do you trace by hand? A shape like this should be constructed with the help of the grid and some adjusting of curvature.

Here is one way. Make sure to have sharp corners on when using the add point tool.
For some reason Youtube automatically turns my videos into wide screen even when I did not record in wide screen so it looks stretched.

Hi Everyone,

thanks for the replies, perhaps I have not been clear on this one.

My steps:

I import the image into anime studio
I select the layer
I click ---> draw --> trace image

after this the image comes out all disformed.
The Logo i am animating consists of more shapes then just the simple one (see pictures) , so recreating the whole thing would be quite time consuming. Is there no way
to prevent the image from disforming?

Is this the exact image you try to trace? Its resolution isn't good enough for that, I tried in Illustrator and got a similar bad result.

If you have it in good enough resolution, just use the image. Which parts need to be animated?

Edit: I identified the fonts used in this logo, and happen to have them here, so I could help you out with that part.

The Font would help me a lot..

This was just a screenshot from the logo. I want to move every part of the book thingy seperate, but when I trace them they look like shit, just like the big black bar I posted earlier. So the 2 shades of blue and the black bar need to be animated!

if you're doing this for vetined why not just ask them for the logo in EPS or whatever??? they should be able to give you that layered / segmented plus the font plus pantone colours specs....

I got a .psd from them. If I export it as an EPS, SVG or AI it comes out like this in Anime studio:

argh! yes - I knew AS vector import was pretty poor (to say it politely!) but this is just .... well ... worse than that.

Where I'd personally go from here... obviously depends on what you're trying to achieve but ... as you have the PSD, then I'd do the work in PS -- e.g. I'd put each item to be animated on a separate layer - resize so it's of good resolution as it'll come into AS as an image (PNG I think) - that might mean (e.g.) splitting the book into two layers; or creating a group layer with successive stages of the book opening or closing as separate layers - yes FBF in PS! - or whatever...

this, for example, is the logo ripped from your post, stuffed through PS in about 30 mins flat (not re-sized!) then thrown into AS (import / image / the psd file) with minimal animation...
