le golpé

Post by Víctor Paredes »

this was my first moho animation.
is about "el golpe" that happens in chile in 1973, when pinochet takes the power.

i don't now if someone has any idea about what happened in chile, but this animation is a little different in some aspects.

I liked it!
Your overall timing felt really good, nice pace to it and I think you use the medium of cut-out cleverly.
The title sequence was way to long, 34 secs for a 2.40 film, you almost lost me before the actual film started. Cut that down to 10-15 secs.
In the animation one thing that bothered me was your walkcycles, hard things to do but they could use some polishing.
The second scene, the soldier picking up the gun, I think need some more work, the depth-rotation of the gun don't read to well and the soldiers movement is to "floating", some tightening up of the scene would be good.
As to design, the explosion doesn't blend in to well with your overall style.
I didn't quite get the story but the performance was so good that it didn't bother me at all.
Overall you got a really good piece of animation, spend some hours at polishing it up and you'll have a great little film!

I didn't get it. I'm not familiar with the history of Chile, other than the fact of Pinochet seizing power, so I couldn't read anything into these sequences. For me, it is too disjointed and chaotic.

The face that's used a lot (to symbolise the common man?) doesn't mean anything to me, nor the use of dinosaurs. I couldn't make out any narrative. So my main response was "huh?".

I agree with Rylleman that much of the animation needs working on, but you can forgive a lot if the story holds up.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Well, I liked the animation and the special black humor.

As I saw it, the characters with the faces from the magazine represent the intelligentia, while the soldiers are brutes who hunt and kill those intelligentia like in a computer game. But I might be wrong here, because the story isn't very clear (I had to use my imagination to figure it all out). However, it might all be very clear for the people who suffered under Pinochet.

I agree the animation could "lose some fat" (trim a few frames here and there), but the title... well, that could really use some serious trimming IMO.

After this critique, I just wanted to add that on the whole I thought it was very entertaining and not at all confusing.

I too liked your movie. I didn't find the dinosaurs distracting, I thought it added to the surreal aspect. I enjoyed the animation, especially the particle effects for the blood. :-O

The one comment I would like to make would be that the story needs a beginning, a middle, and an end. The scenes seemed to be repeats, and the story didn't progress with each scene. But in terms of the style, animation, and audience appeal, I liked it!

thanks for your comments.

i know almost all errors that are in Le golpé. this was my first moho animation and this is not a story, is just some different scenes in one video.
i saw moho and i said Wow, i can to put bones to png images!. then i made le golpé, i didn't know about masking, ways to make walk well the characters, uses of 3d and anything.

i'm preparing a short animation with all i had learned and i want to finish it in a couple of months.
if everything works well, i'll upload it to the forum.
