Masking question

Post by Scot Solida »

Bear with me... I am quite new to this. Try as I might, I can't work out how to do something I'd like to do. Here's the thing...

I have a sort of viewscreen on an articulated arm. This is all in a bone group. There is a background layer under this. What I want to do is use an imported movie file (which is rectangular) and have that appear on the screen. Trouble is, the screen is round. So if I put my movie layer where it ought to be (in the middle of this very complex bone group), the whole rectangular thing shows. I need to "crop" it to a round shape. I figure this is a job for masking... but try as I might, I can't figure out how to make it work - despite all of the excellent tutorials I have viewed on the subject.

Never mind! I got it. Absurdly simple. Just took a while to grok.

You could always use the movie as an image texture to a round shape. I am not at my computer right now so I can not confirm if the audio will import also. You can always rip the sound from the movie and import it and sync it up.
Sorry for bad animation

Ah, that's a good idea... I had no idea you could do that! Nope, no audio on the clip. It's very short, just an image showing on the animated viewer. Now that I have it masked as it ought to be, it's looking pretty cool. I'm really digging this stuff!
