Stroke Line Problem with Head Turn

Post by SteTooned »

Please excuse my ignorance... I have been attempting to create a head turn, I’ve put all the vectors on one layer and using a single bone to create a basic head turn, however, the layers like hair fringe and main face background need the stroke removed facing forward but as they travel to the outer edge they look odd without a stroke. My simple question is, is there a setting that will put a stroke line all around, all of the vectors on the same layer, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen something similar in Adobe Illustrator.

in the group (or bone) layer that contains all the vector layers select "Outline on"

no problem... happens all the time... and it's quicker to ask than to spend hours searching for that "Glimpse of the Blindingly Obvious"! It's also helpful for others who now have a reference... so please don't feel stupid; feel good: you've probably helped others who might not even have known to look for the feature... :D

This is something i also missed so don't feel bad. Can someone explain how this feature works? I'm not sure what the difference is from turning off a stroke in the style pallette?

this will stroke the entire layer contents with a stroke - it's not a 'per shape' setting... It's useful if you want to outline a complete character with a thicker line for example

SteTooned, if you use line width instead of 'hide line' you can bring it back with keyframes (or smart bones) based on head position

I trtied turning off the strok of a shape then moved it oved a shape that had a stroke applied so an unstroked edge poked outside and then rendered. Did'nt make any difference? The shape edge that poked out still rendered without a stroke?

EDIT: Ahhh.,....just got it to work.
Thanks Funks.

I have spent so long working with 5.6 that I some of these newer tools have just slipped under the radar. Now I find myself not visiting 5.6 at all as AS 9 is such a game changer.

I hear you. incidently I used this feature on my avatar. The outer line is slightly thicker than inside lines ---->

Using the line width method has created yet more problems, as you can see the result is a taper from one point to the other, the only way that I may correct this is by moving points and hiding lines which I feel is creating unnecessary work rather than just adding line width to the whole layer.
The only drawback I’ve found with this method is the line width lowest setting is 1, it isn’t possible to input anything less than a whole number IE: 0.5, 0.75
Many thanks for your help..
Cheers
