I have a particle layer with 5 different images inside. Particle count is 1000, lifetime is 250. When the particles begin to rain in, about 20% or so are constantly blinking, everything else is OK. There's no key or any animation on any of the images, and it seems to afflict all of them.
The blink is like 1 frame visible, 3 invisible - which corresponds to my 4 processor cores. This is the first time I experience any problems with rendering, and I do some pretty complex stuff.
Any thoughts on how to cure this? (v8)

Hi, the first thing that comes to my mind is, have you tried to uncheck "Enable multi-threaded rendering" checkbox on Export Animation window just to see if it makes any difference? If that was the case, maybe it could be like a convenient workaround meantime other solution arrives...

Didn't re-appear after a complete reboot - so far.
But you're right, switching to one core should help - only it will take 4x longer to render then ...
