Experiments With Red/Blue Anaglyph 3D

Post by drumlug13 »

I just started messing with and researching this Anaglyph 3D stuff, but from what I can tell, although it's labeled Red/Blue Anaglyph, it's actually best viewed through the Red/Cyan lenses. I sent an email to see if there's a specific shade that Anime Studio was designed to use. No answer yet. I'll share if I get a response.

Here's a simple shape rotation animation. I've enabled the basic layer order animation and the "Project Settings"/ "Eye Separation" is set at .4

For just simply checking a few settings I think AS does pretty good. But,from what I've been able to research on the web (about all that "Horizontal Parallax" stuff) , eye separation is greater the closer the object is, and that's not an animate'able feature with AS. In the animation, the "Eye Separation" on the white platform would look better at .1, or even the default .02. So to draw out a little more depth between layers I guess we could render a background with a smaller degree of "Eye Separation". Render a middle-ground with a bit greater separation .... yada yada .... Then assemble in a video editing software.

Also looks like I could use a crash course on "Retinal Rivalry" where the colors are clashing. Also this was rendered using Quicktime/Animation/Best settings. Obviosly the Youtube quality takes a big hit, but even on my PC it's struggling a bit. Rendering with single frames is probably a must.

Maybe future versions of AS could include "Eye Separation" settings in Group Settings. And an Anaglyph Color Safe Swatch.

If anybody else is working on this Anaglyph stuff hit me up if you have advice, online study links etc.

I once made this, only thing I really did was adding the Z value to my layer translation keyframes. I don't recall anything like 'eye seperation', I used the default settings. But it worked.

Lukas that looks Awesome. When he jumped into the background I seriously sat up and tried to look over the bushes, just on reflex.

The settings for "Eye Separation" are on the Project Settings menu. BUt I messed around with it all day yesterday, probably best to just leave it at the default settings. Also it doesn't appear that you can export Anaglyph with an Alpha channel, so exporting different layers to assemble in an editing program is out the window.

I've looked at a ton of 3D stuff over the last week or so, yours is one of the best I've seen. I loved it :!:
