Switch layer problems

Post by CSCorbridge »

Okay...so I completed a full 3 minute animation that includes lots of camera effects. After finishing, I decided to go back and add a switch layer for eyebrows for added expression. I created the eyebrow switch layer inside my head layer group, the exact same way I have my mouth switch layer set up. However, whenever the camera view changes - the eyebrows don't follow my head, they just float off by themselves rather than follow the camera movements. I animated from frame 0, so that's not the problem, and I do not have "immune to camera" or "depth of field" boxes checked. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I guess I could try setting them up as bone layers and attaching them to the head bone, but I'd rather use a as switch layer if possible.

Any suggestions?
Thank you.

One more thing... I've noticed that the origin of my head layer stays constant through all camera movements, but the origin of my eyebrow layer goes all over the place with the camera. I matched the origin of the eyebrow layer with that of my head at frame 0, but once the camera starts it's all over the place. How do I get it to just stay put?? And is this my real underlying problem?

Thank you again

Without even guessing the underlying problem, I'd try this:
duplicate the mouth switch layer, rename it, then put the new eyebrow layers inside. Since the mouth switch layer seems to behave as it should, I'd expect the same from the duplicate.

it could be that somehow the eyebrows (or the rest) have different Z values which would make them parallax differently to camera movements - check the Z value in the layer transform tool. Perhaps you changed the Z to scale the layer, instead of using the scale tool? Without seeing the file, it may be a simple matter of parenting or nesting not being correct, but the Z thing is probably more likely.

If that's not it, Slowtiger's suggestion is probably the path of least resistance...

I'd say slowtiger's solution would defiantly be the best and easiest solution. Like funksmaname said, it could be your new layer is on a different z plane but it could be because of scaling issues with different layers or any number of other little quirks. I had a similar problem before because scaling a layer and scaling an object are two completely different things. When you scale or manipulate a layer it changes the size of the grid coordinates your working with and if you have switch layers scaled within an already manipulated main layer.........FUBAR!!!!!!!!! Slowtiger's solution is great because it eliminates the guess work as to whats wrong and just piggyback's the mouth layers movements! Very clever and more importantly easy way of fixing the problem!
Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty! Pause, consider, do! I dare you!
