Best settings for DvD?

Post by mightyrat »

I plan on releasing the cartoon series on DVD in the near future, but first free on Youtube and Vimeo. I wanna make this as simple as possiable. On youtube it's gonna be 1280x720. Would that be the best settings for DVD?

Also, would 25 FPS or 30 FPS be the best choice? Thanks guys.

Your DVD editor will take care of converting from source format to DVD.

From wikipedia: DVD-Video
The following formats are allowed for MPEG-2 video:

At 25 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 50 Hz image scanning frequency):
720 × 576 pixels (same resolution as D-1)

At 29.97 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 60 Hz image scanning
frequency):
720 × 480 pixels (same resolution as D-1)
As you can see, HD 720 (1280 x 720) is not supported in DVD standard, but as slowtiger advises, there's no reason not to use it as your source files since your edtior will export the correct specification.
