Has anyone ever had to create mouth shapes for lip sync in a side view?
I'm doing silhouette characters. Do I need to make the mouth separate to make a switch layer? What would be the best way to do this? I have to convey emotion too, which will be tough without showing eyes.
Mouth shapes from a side view?

Ah, that's a good idea. This way you even can have interpolation, since the mask is vector.
Just tried it:
