Switch Layer Mimic Script

Post by DK »

Anyone know of a script that will mirror a keyframe on another switch layer in a group when it's twin/control layer is keyframed?

Cheers

Don't worry Brainmeester. We all get that from time to time. Sometimes it's better to break down a script request or even a post to it's basics. I find when I have reved on and on a bit the point gets lost in my banter.

So I'm finding from using it (for the first time) today that unlike meshinstance, switchslave appears to only work on one slave layer?
(I have several master-slave sets, have renamed the extensions for each. Still each master only appears to be able to drive one slave?)

Is that other people's experience?
Thanks

Layers in the same root folder/at the same level.
Master switch layer has the switchslave layer script attached to it.
Slave layer has ".sslv" attached to the end of the layer name (or other string if you edit the script.)

If you want to test in a clean simple file, make two switch layers on the root layer in a new file? All switch layers must have the same names in each switch folder (contents can differ.) I make sure by copyiong then renaming the switch group, then editing the switch layer contents individually.

Hi mad.
Sorry for the late reply. I just tested it and you're right. It seems we can only have 2 switch layers at a time. Have you seen the actual script though? It's pretty small. It should'nt be too hard for a scripter to make it so that it will operate multiple layers?

Not sure (I don't know any scripting) but Uncle Wes pointed out on the other forum for old people that you can have more than one slave, run through the timeline and it drops keys on the top slave, move a different slave up and run through the timeline again, it will dropo frames on that slave. So wierdly it actually works with multiple slaves, you just have to kind of manually process each one through the frame cooking stage.

Hmmmm....that still sucks though. It would be great if this script operated multiple (more than two) switch layers simultaneously but I guess that is a workaround.
