Designing Your Own Actions

Post by petefc »

According the manual (page 386) with ASP8 the process involves taking an existing action, stored in the Character Wizard/Actions folder, and saving it to the same folder with a new name. Once the new file is created you make the necessary modifications to the action. Then, according to the manual, "You should now see your new action
appear in the Actions menu in the Character Wizard Movement tab
.". The problem is, I cannot even save an existing action file under it's new name. I get a message telling me that I "don't have permission to save in this location." It suggests that I "contact the Administrator to obtain permission." Well, I am the Administrator - so how do I get permission ?

Are you quite sure this is not a (windows) operating system message?
(Rather than an Anime Studio issue)

Windows will limit access (at times) if you are not the sys admin... usually you are on a single user machine... Do you allow multiple user profiles on your machine?

Please reply so others may benefit from your experience.

I am on a single user laptop. I have set up a "guest" account for my grandson (who has been known to press the wrong button). Apart from that I am the only user and Windows User Accounts confirms that I am the administrator. It may well be a Windows rather than an Anime problem but the question remains - how do I go about solving it?

Further to my recent reply, I think I have solved my problem. I tried a different idea. I went to the Actions folder and attempted to copy and paste one of the three actions listed. I chose Wave.anime and I copied it. When I attempted to paste it in the same directory a message was generated telling me that I needed Admin permission. I carried on and ended up with another file called Wave - Copy.anime. This additional file now appears in the list of options available to me. So, all I need do now - I hope - is modify it and resave it with a more meaningful name. I will let you know how I get on.

I have been unable to duplicate your problem.
Are you trying to save in a restricted system directory?

Your workaround while effective is a barrier to efficient production.

I had this problem after an update once. Click on your C drive then right click and choose properties. Select the security tab and make sure you have allow full control for your admin profile checked.

I checked as you suggested and it seems my admin security level allows me to do pretty much as I please. So, I tried again with the same result. Although it won't allow me to save to the Actions folder, the message says that I can save the new file to my own User directory. ( I use W7 Home). This I did. I then use cut and paste to get it back into the Actions folder. Even then I get a message saying that I need permission to do it. However, it does allow it. Once again a work round that works fine. Thanks for the advise anyway.

You need to turn off UAC or (right click the AS Icon and select run as Administrator from the list)
