Make keyframes hold a postition?

Post by Suchiko »

I just started using AS after a long time, and I'm having a problem with keyframes. I'll set one where I want to keep the image the same, then animate after the keyframe I set. But when I play it, the animation has gone all the way back to the beginning frame and it totally ignores the keyframe I set where I wanted the changes to start. The only way I can get this to work is to copy/paste into that keyframe every single time I want to use one. I thought the point of keyframes was that I wouldn't have to do that. :(

Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong?

ALSO.... I was wondering how to go about editing frames specifically for different layers. (For instance, if I go into my Eyes layer and mess around, for some reason there'll be some keyframes in the mouth layer) Does it have anything to do with the Channels area in the timeline? Can you split that up to just see different layers? (because I notice it says "All Channels," so I assume there must be more channels than just that one)

It's been getting really messy lately, with keyframes I set in one layer randomly showing up in others and I don't know what they're for. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding this whole keyframe thing.

Say your action starts at #12. Create a key there, then copy it and paste it at #1. This way you make sure that there's no unwanted movement between #1 and #12.

You can as well set a key at #1, but don't forget to create another one at #12.

If something needs to stay for a longer time, you could set that key to step, as in #30. Whatever you change in #42 will appear abruptly.

Nice image, slowtiger, very clear!
I'm gonna use it when teaching AS (if you don't mind, of course).
