Make a patch without the shadow from "host"

Is it possible to create a patch layer without getting the shadow effect from the layer I want to patch? That kinda ruins the meaning of patch since the shadow show the outline of the arm, in my case.

Actually I solved it by adding the shading later on, with the "Shadows" tab. But thanks anyway!
