@ Funk: here's the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFvao7kC-3w
@ Gilles: are you saying I could have put all the layers into one?? As you see it, one shape gets turned on until a single color's knot is tied . . . the next step would be to turn OFF each shape until the screen's blank. Then, I'd like to turn on one shape for each of the colors at the same time. I thought separate layers for each shape would be less confusing (for me, at least).
On to the next one!!

Raymond, seems everything is on one layer already.
Here is your file after I only deleted the extra layers, renders just like the one you posted except allot smaller.

the red lane is for the currently selected shape - so you could put all the shapes in a single layer and then set them all to invisible... actually what I often do to make transitions like this on a group of layers in flash is to do them all at the same time lined up so they have the same length etc - then you can spread them out across the timeline one after the other - so select them in order with the 'select shape' tool and move the red lane points over to where the last one finished (or overlap them for a less staggered result)
hope this makes sense...

@ Funk: no, I don't understand the "red lane" you were talking about, but I DID check out your shape stacking videos . . . very cool, thank you. My head is buzzing with new ideas.
What I have is an animation with no motion . . . the only things moving are your eyes as they follow the path of the Celtic knot.
Now that I see that multiple actions can happen simultaneously on one layer, I'm going to sit down with my original drawing (with the shapes numbered 1 through 51), and a chart of my own design. I will choreograph a new video, marking keyframes for "fading" in and out.
Gentlemen, you've been a great help to me!! Thank you!!
