Patch tool question? Working with switch layers.

First off AS 8 is the shizzznitt!! Best animation software on the market! I bow before it's greatness! But......I'm having a little issue with the patch tool. While it's probably one of the most impressive additions to the AS tool set I'm having difficulty using on switch layers. Particularly, I want to use it on hands on my character. I would guess that the patch tool was specifically made to be used with limbs and bending points so I would think it would be made to work with the most commonly used movements of hands and hand gestures. However, when I try to target a patch layer to a switch layer I can't. My arm's are broken in parts in a bone layer so I can patch the elbow joint but if I want to patch the wrist it has to be put in the same bone layer. If it's put into a switch layer with multiple hands it doesn't work. Any suggestions???? I suppose I could make a switch layer with the entire upper, lower and hand bone layer for each hand pose but what a pain in the ass that would be! Any thoughts from the pros would be appreciated!! Thanks!!!

keep switch layer up to the arm layer then patch will work ,the opposites doesn't work
