Gradient not showing up

Post by ZeShroom »

Hey, brand new to anime studio and I'm still using the 30 day free trial. I'm fairly sure that the only reason I can't export or upload to youtube or anything is because it's free and I'm ok with that, but I do have a problem with my gradients (or shadows or any other filling effect I try) because they never show up when I hit play. If I go to any keyframe in the timeline it has the gradient, but when I play it to watch it all the gradients and shadows and stuff go away. I click preview to see the still image of whatever frame its at and it still has the gradients and stuff, so I'm wondering if it's 1) a bug, 2) just something about AS that won't let me see gradients, or 3) it won't let me cuz I'm using the free trial. Any suggestions? I'm new to forums in general anyway, so correct me if this is an inappropriate place to be asking this :P

You can not upload to youtube an unrendered file. You must render it 1st and then import it back to AS and then connect AS to YT and upload it. It is totally crap and I suggest you do not even try it.

I take it you are using AS7? Its a bug in 7 that does not show gradients or textures when you hit play. It is annoying and I do not know why it has not been fixed yet.

Right, and it won't let me export it either (which is what I would do anyway cuz I'd put it into windows movie maker), and that's the part that I assumed was just in the free trial.

And yeah, AS7. Does that mean that the gradients and textures won't show up if I export it, or does that just mean I won't see them when I click play?

They will show up just fine when you render it, It only does not show when you hit play in AS.

No gradient in AS Pro 8 when animation plays

Post by steakopoivre »

Hi, I have the same problem with AS Pro 8 (gradient does show when the animation is played). Does anybody else has the same problem with Pro 8? It looks like it was a bug in version 7. Thanks.

What do you mean by play, as in, pressing the spacebar to go through the frames or pressing f5 to render a preview?

Pressing f5 wont render gradients in either 7 or 8.

Thanks for your reply. I mean playing the animation by using the Play button. When the animation is playing, the shape is white with a black outline. When I stop the animation the gradient fills the shape.
I never saw this with Pro 6 (never had 7). An easy way to reproduce is to create a shape, like a circle, fill it with a gradient and animate it for a couple of seconds.

It's a behavior introduced to keep the preview light. A way to check your gradients movement is to hold right key (→) on the keyboard.
