reset or renormalize a layer's rotation

Post by davidweese »

You've created a complex character with multiple layers contained in a group layer

But, the character was cobbled together tilted slightly

You rotate the group layer to straighten it up and also make sure you place the group layer rotation axis right in the center so when you flip the layer horizontally, it flips right in place (ie a head turn)

PROBLEM : The flip is around the ROTATED axis. What you really want is to re-normalize the group layer's rotation in the same sense that changing the origin does for translation.

If you rotate all the constituent layers as a group, it occurs in 3D space, reorienting the layers. Not good.

Yes, of course you could rotate each individual layer and reconstruct your character, but that's what I hope to avoid. This has come up a few times.

Is there a way to re-normalize a layer's rotation?

Put another way (or workign in reverse), is it possible to rotate a group layers contents as a group WITHOUT rotating the group layer's axis?

The entire reason is to make it easier to fine tune characters for quick head or body turns using layer flip.

have you tried putting the entire stack in a new group? that outer group should have an unrotated center which you could then flip... *shrug*
