Problem with Gradient

Post by User13 »

i fill the eye with smooth gradient fx and and it is okay
but as soon as i move the pupil in animation the gradient start to act strange

since i post my request i kinda figure it out why it was like that
it was because of the bone strenght level
thank you jonbo

and now i have another question
how can i move the a shape or layer with gradient fill fx without having to move the gradient handle separately ?
if i only move the shape or layer the gradient fx remain in the same position as before (specially in radial type)
thanks again

then when i move it

I don't use gradients on moving objects much because of the problems you mention, but here's a trick that would work in this case. Have just the pupil/iris visable, you will have to turn off that mask, hit ctr+r use the save as button to save the eyes as a png image. Import the image back in and use it to replace the pupil/iris layer. You'll have to turn your masking back on. You wont need to bone it if you don't want but you can use simple layer translate and rotate tools to move the eyeballs and they will move together. The gradient is "baked" into the image so it wont slip around.

i like to work with full vector projects but as you told it seems that there is no other way
thank you again jonbo for your fast answers

Actually, there are more likely other ways that I don't know but you can simulate a gradient effect that's vector based. Create another circle shape on the iris layer about 80 to 90% of the size of the iris with a lighter color and use the soft edge effect instead of the gradient on the new shape. Set the blur radius to 125 to 150 and then move the shape over the iris. When you preview render you can see the effect. Since this gives you vector points you can bind to bones and should move right.
