actions assignment keys

I've been assigning actions (from the actions menu) to simple letter keys such as R, and L, but when I want to insert the actions using my hot key assignments nothing happens. I tried using shift, alt, and command along with them but they still wont work. Is there a trick to inserting actions using hot keys? Should I be using the "F1,2,3" keys with them? Hummmm another mystery

The actions are inserting properly when I use the insert reference button. So I know I do have them set up properly in that respect.

One trick I know is to have the animation playing when you press your hotkey. If you pause the animation after pressing the hotkey you will see a keyframe has been added to the timeline. You can drag the key frame to the place you want. This is a way to kind of rough in your actions.

thanx for that tidbit.... I was inserting a keyframe and then trying to place the action at that keyframe.... your suggestion hit the spot!

ur welcome. this works well for quick actions like blinking, more complex actions i use insert copy or reference.
