Import Quality with lines in image or vector.

Post by PixelFeul »

:? Hi, I'm new to anime studio. I have some characters made and layered in illustrator and photoshop. I imported them useing the correct methods, for photoshop, I used AS studios script for exporting to AS I tried just opening the file as a jpg in As also. the files look OK, except one issue.
The Charater Lines, the actual black Stroke on the chartoon character is choppy, and smooth lines I had are completely messed up, very rough and choppy. I have tried different setting, can someone please.

PLEASE Tell Me, somebasic settings used when importing images or PNG files to AS (exporting PNG files to AS) that will result in my drawings having smooth lines as they did outside of AS. I saw somewhere to turn of antialiasing? in Photoshop. does this sound right. confused and tired, been trying to get characters into AS with nice quality for a week now, with no progress, everytime i open a imported png file the Blacklines and only the black lines are messed up, my gradients, and colors and textures are all fine, just seems to affect the strokes. Please help.

1. If you use JPG, compression degrades your image quality, and you can't have character parts on a transparent background. Use PNG instead, this preserves transparency and doesn't compromise quality.

2. Always check pixel dimensions. If your AS project is in HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) a background image must have the same dimensions - at least. Bigger, if you want to zoom in. If you build a character, I'd recommend to have the head 1000 px high, so it's good enough for close-ups, and make the remaining body parts fitting to this.

3. It's a good idea to decide on a project format first befor producing any artwork. Also, import artwork into AS always within the same project settings, that way all parts will fit automatically.

Hi, I have one character, that is 1280 x 1907 pixels, that i have been using to test, I reset the AS project setting to match this, and the quality did get a little better. I then resized the PNG to 5000 x 7449. (This is the whole character, just using as test) the Quality improved greatly! The render looks just like I made it in AI. Thanks for your help slowtiger and the quick response. I have 13 characters, and I was not looking forward to remaking each one of them in AS. Glad I joined this forum. Have a great Day!
