Adding ongoing plots to a comic like this will attract some new viewers, but you will lose some as well. I used to read a web comic casually because it was funny. Once they started adding an ongoing story, it became too much of an investment to keep on top of. I eventually just found a new, more lighthearted comic altogether.
I think when your series is animated, this impacts you more than other web comics. If I fall behind and need to check out a dozen strips in one afternoon, I can probably get away with it at the office. Catching up on a dozen videos is a lot harder to do.
Do what feels best for your characters, though! If you come up with a great idea you feel you have to try, you may as well see how it goes. Even if it is a shorter arc. I see you categorized your episodes by month. Well, one month could be a complete story arc. That would make it more accessible.
Great job on Fletcher as always. I have everyone at the office waiting to see what you make next week. :)
