To fill anything there has to be an object first: a shape. If you want to fill an area between several overlapping shapes, it is still a gap full of nothing. When you click that gap to fill it, Moho creates the necessary shape and fills ist. That's the way it works.

I know how it is. When objects overlap, an additional object is created for the area of overlap, and I think that's useless. Only the object I click on with the paint bucket should be filled.
This means I first have to select the object and then make changes.

What is this new object needed for? That's my question. I don't see the point, but maybe there is a point that I can't see.

Moho needs to know the borders of an area in order to fill it. It's either a gap (no shape there) or an area which is the overlap of 2 existing shapes. From these 2 shapes Moho needs to calculate the borders of the overlap area, otherwise your paint fill would extend to the whole of the 2 objects.

The paint bucket in Moho is primarily used to create new shapes from existing curves. The standard way to change colors of existing shapes is to use the select shape tool and style window.
But if you click and drag with the paint bucket, you can select the exact shape you want. Just drag until you get to the edge of the shape and that shape shows selected. Then when you release the mouse button, Moho will either recolor it (if it's an existing shape) or create a new shape (if it's an overlap that is not a closed curve or have an existing shape).

Since the update, the Paint Bucket no longer duplicates a single shape. The purpose of a Paint Bucket is to fill, not to duplicate.
But so far, no one here has been able to give me a reason why a third shape is created from the overlap when two shapes overlap.

I gave you the best explanation I could, if you don't accept that, well. Case closed.

My question was, what is the purpose of this third shape that is created when two shapes overlap? It does not make sense.
I understand what Moho does and what I can do to avoid it.

If you click where there is no closed shape, like an overlap, Moho creates a new vector curve and shape... instead of possibly messing up your existing vectors.
In most software, when there is doubt about the user's intent, it's better to err on the side of nondestructive editing. Adding a new shape ensures nothing is destroyed in the process.
