I'm taking it all in and i am very receptive. I already submitted my cartoon so what's done is done. Like i said a few comments back, next time the audio will be better, i'll create my own background characters, there will be explicit content, and the animation will get better with time. The Grand Canyon was not created in one day. Thanks for the constructive criticism even though I didn't ask for it.synthsin75 wrote:You know, I probably should apologize. I went back and read the original post again, and I realized that he neither asked for nor invited any kind of comment whatsoever. Well except for positive comments.
It was just a very annoying (in my opinion) plea for views to possibly further personal gain. Isn't there a name for that kind of thing? ....Oh well, I can't think of it at the moment. The creator is then offered a commercial distribution contract and becomes eligible for a package of benefits that, in total, only Atom can deliver on. That is what I am trying to achieve "Pro Status" so I need as many views and positive comments as possible.
So I am truly sorry. I didn't mean to speak without being asked for an honest opinion. And I think everyone here should be similarly ashamed of the awesome, if unsolicited, advise they've given. It was never asked for, so we should have no expectation of it falling on receptive ears.

You made some good points but what world have you been living in? THIS world thrives off of controversy it's all over the media. Freedom is the American way. A lot of comedians have gotten famous and made bank doing dirty jokes for ex. Kat Williams, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Eddie Griffin, George Carlin, Larry "The Cable Guy", Jeff Dunham, Rodney Carrington, the list goes on and on. Cartoons, same thing for ex. Family Guy, South Park, Drawn Together, the [adult swim] line-up, and so on. It's in everyday life regardless of what nay sayers may feel is appropriate.Rhoel wrote:Couple of points
1: The need to offend - Commercially its a dead end and from 30+ years of commercial broadcast production, I can't think of one company which succeeded from that approach. From the commissioning editors POV, it smacks of unprofessionalism and lack of talent. I can think of more than a dozen hopefully animator/directors over the years who resorted to the needless shock, profanity and poo jokes, none succeeded. Even Monty Python regretted their advertising of The Meaning of Life - (something to offend everyone). It resulted in people not bothering to go see the film as they would find it offensive. People like to be entertained. If you loose sight of that, you're waiting your time.
2: This forum has a zero tolerance to flame wars. The current direction of the exchanges is likely to lead to posts being deleted, topics locked. Time to take a step back and forget the all non-glowing comments = h8ers philosophy. Everyone here makes animation in one form or another: Some are hobbyists, others as a means to a questionable living. Not everyone will like your work. That's life.
Personally, I think the OP has had some good observations made about his efforts. I'd be interested in seeing if he is able to go back and create an improved take II: Plenty of us have done so after negative comments, made it better and then reposted. It's a response which gains respect, the ability to dust oneself off and prove their doubters wrong. Name calling simply proves the doubters right.
As H.G. DaGr8One himself says, being rude [...] is pointless and is just going to turn people off. The result will be this thread and others like it will simply be ignored - no-one will bother looking or commenting since they know it will end up in insults.
And that's a shoot yourself in the foot, counterproductive result ... people not wanting to look at your work.

WTF? ARE YOU READING? Who's demanding? I asked nicely for views not criticism. I know what needs to be fixed I just don't have the means to do it at the moment. I refuse to bend over backwards for you people that may be what you are use to, watering down your vision just to please others. Thanks for the feedback....Acochran_89 wrote:I love comedy central AND adult swim I personally thought your cartoon sucked...sorry to be so blunt about it but seriously. You're still using the default characters that come with the program and there is hardly any animation at all and the story line is non existent. Keep trying though you'll get better, maybe. But the ONLY way that's going to happen is if you actually listen when people tell you things that can be better. Your friends going..oh man that's awesome.. doesn't count. A lot of people on here know what they are talking about. We all make cartoons. We've all seen what you're trying to go for. But if you come on here, post your stuff, and just demand that people watch it then bottom line is you're going to get a negative response. You're original post is really demanding. You don't just ask people to watch it you tell them to. What the hell is up with that? And then after we watch it, if we actually take the time to, you give us garbage? And then refuse to change anything and just call us all haters or say i guess its not for you then or Oh i can't please everyone. Who ARE you pleasing? Because I seriously doubt that cartoon pleases ANYONE. So, maybe stop being so rude, listen to the advise people give, and then come back and ASK us to watch.
just my two cents on this whole thread

Dude chill!
You ask us to "view" without watching? So we just click the link and walk away or close our eyes? We have opinions. You created something that you ask us to watch but... you don't want us to say anything about it? You get all huffy and annoyed because we critiqued your work... your anger at our comments is so hypocritical.
You create a "controversial" animation with offensive content intended to provoke a response and then you get angry when we do respond? You see the hypocrisy right?
Watch my animation so I get "view credits"... but don't say anything if you don't like it. I just want my rankings to go up deservedly or not. Just close your eyes and have no opinion. Cover your ears as well. You could just put up 2 minutes of blank white nothing and ask people to view that if that's the only qualification.
I don't like that genre of humor, that's just MY preference. That's why there are many different kinds of humor, so everyone can watch what they like. No one is "wrong" if they don't like your animation style. And you aren't "wrong" for creating it. Just don't get upset and pissy if someone doesn't like it.
If you intend to provoke then you better be strong enough to take the hit when you get responses.

Ok, this thread born from spam. Spam always says pick me pick me, but there is no body hearing at the other side.
I just have one thing to say. I love to make provocative and shocking animations, but here I really can't explain everything because it's most about Chile and Spanish language.
A couple years ago with my friends we made Super Mario Chile, a 30 seconds animation which had a real success on my country: a thousands of visits, mass media interviews, winning awards, Tv shows commenting it, etc. A local success.
The idea was pretty simple, tell the official story of our country (which is what official education teach us on the books) but with a Mario Bros atmosphere. ¿But why this simple idea was so famous?, we put a lot of little jokes on each detail and character appearing, that's one reason, but the second is more important: we made the bad guy win.
Ok, a little context here. If you don't know, in Chile recent history we had a dictatorship ruled by Augusto Pinochet for 17 years. He took the power on 1973 and produced the dead of the socialist president Salvador Allende, the destruction of our government house and the disappearing, death and torture of thousands of people.
In 1990 the government of Pinochet ended and we returned to a democracy.
Today, for most people the figure of Pinochet represent pain and shame and he forms part of the bad guys of our official history.
Paradoxically, our country organization is based on what was constructed on his dictatorship, so we have a lot of democracy limitations which are inheritance from this 17 bad years. The mayor example is that our current Political Constitution was created by Pinochet, without a legal vote or opponents political parties, so we haven't chosen anything of our own rules.
Back to the short. In the final battle -which correspond to Mario v/s Bowser- we put Pinochet as Mario and Allende as Bowser. Finally, obviously, Bowser die in the lava and Mario destroy his castle.
Much people felt offended, they said How Pinochet can be the hero of this story when actually he is the bad guy?
That was shocking, people didn't expect to find this in a funny video, much of them called us "fachos" (which is an apocopation of fascists), thinking we were supporters of Pinochet. It was heretic. But we had just one answer for all: this video is just like our history was, Pinochet (lamentably) won, Allende died, the House of government was destroyed and today our country is based in what he constructed.
It was a very interesting debate of our history and still being in some forums, all from a 30 seconds animation.
Ok, I know it's a too close example and this sound egocentric, but what I mean is that you can do something shocking, but in several ways. Things become interesting when you tell things in a new way. Maybe to make children wash their teeth you should tell them exactly the opposite, who knows. It's great you be trying to be shocking, but you must be intelligent too.

I think you might have missed the point. Explicit is fine, and each of your examples (minus maybe a few of the cartoons) are very funny with or without the language. They can get away with any amount of profanity they want because they actually are funny.Kat Williams, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Eddie Griffin, George Carlin, Larry "The Cable Guy", Jeff Dunham, Rodney Carrington, the list goes on and on. Cartoons, same thing for ex. Family Guy, South Park, Drawn Together, the [adult swim] line-up, and so on.
I'd bet cash money that if your script was actually funny, no one would say "boo" about the profanity. It just needs to have some purpose, other than sounding like some kids getting a kick out of cursing.
I hope you understand the difference there. People like to watch things they'd enjoy in life. While most people enjoy being told good jokes (with any amount of profanity), they don't like to just stand around and be cussed at for no good reason.
I know your friends enjoy the story. It's just a matter of how far you really want to go with it.
