1. Created two layers, each containing a circle with the same style associated with both objects.
2. Edit the style and notice that only the selected layer will be refreshed when altering the style. I need to click on each layer to see the style updated.

So that is probably what was underlying the weirdness I was experiencing. It seems like a definite bug. If I create a third layer with nothing on it and select that before editing the style, I won't see any style changes in my objects using the style until I click on them.

Maybe this is just my machine, but that would be surprising to me.
Okay, I can verify that that does seem to be a bug. Thanks for the steps to duplicate it. If you make a change to the style, and before you select the non-updated layer, you can uncheck GPU acceleration in the Display Quality dropdown to see it update. Reenabling GPU acceleration will again show the unselected layer not updated. It renders correct either way.

Does GPU acceleration work better on better video cards? I have an economy card that is a few years old now (Radeon HD 6450), preview animation looks like crap too (draws less points and looks 'blocky'), so I am gonna just leave it off from now on. It makes me wonder if this bug would be seen on a new machine with a good card. Thanks for mentioning this BTW, it is a PITA to try and adjust styles and not have them update properly. I thought I was going crazy, and since styles are a little confusing to start with, I was second-guessing what I was doing and really confused, not knowing if it was my error or the program.

No, I have a brand new Alienware laptop (GeForce GTX 970M), and I see the problem here. I did find that right-clicking the AS app icon and changing the graphics to dedicated instead of the default integrated, in Windows 8.1, did help with some workspace display of masking though.

Is there any way to enable/disable GPU Acceleration with a keyboard shortcut? That would make this much less troublesome.

Only if someone writes a button script to do it.
