You can do this in the Preferences. Go to the Timeline tab and enable "Use SMPTE timecode." The gray ruler at the top will still show frames, but the area below, where the keyframes are, will show minutes and seconds.

You don't need Follow Path. Select the points with the Select Points tool and at the top of the menubar you'll see the Flip Vertical and Flip Horizontal tools.

What would be helpful I think is if a more complex cropping functionality were adopted, basically allow points to act as an image crop, and allow the points to be automated.
