Curve Profile

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought there was a way to relax a point in a curve profile? Like you could reduce the effect of the curve profile for certain points.

You mean the C tool (curvature)?

No, I thought I saw something about relaxing the curve profile on certain points. Not sure if it was a separate script, built in or maybe something I thought of a while back that would be a cool feature. Hmm...

That's normally Curvature: Press C, select the points, and drag to the right to relax the points gradually. To just use the default smoothness, I use Ctrl-M.

Or do you mean something else by "relaxing the curve profile on certain points"?

Could you be thinking of Liquid Shapes? You can adjust the 'blobbiness' of a shape using Blend.

Thanks but nope.

For instance.
Make a circle.
Make an spline for the curve profile and set it.
Now i thought there was a method to select a point to reduce the curve profile for part of the shape. Like to reduce it a bit around that point of the shape.
I could be wrong though and may have been a feature request in my head.

Oh, okay, I think I understand. I'm not aware of anything short of editing the profile shape directly. If I learn otherwise, will let you know.

BTW, on my computer, I just noticed that the Curve Profile effect disappears in the display when the GPU Cache is active and when an unrelated layer is selected. However, this happens only in the display because Ctrl-R renders the effect just fine.

When I disable the GPU Cache, the Curve Profile effect looks fine and persists in the display even after switching to other layers, as expected.

Considering how the GPU Cache operates, I understand why this happens, but I was wondering if you see this too. Just want to be sure since this is the first time I've seen this limitation. (It had been a while since I last used Curve Profile.)

Thanks.

I do not have that issue. Not sure what would cause that.

Interesting. Thanks for checking.

It's not a huge deal since I often animate with GPU Cache disabled (probably why I hadn't noticed before,) but I'll check this on my other computer when I get home and see if it happens there.

Maybe try updating your graphics driver. Hope you figure it out. ;)

Nah, I keep the drivers updated, so maybe it's just this Surface Laptop. I checked the Curve Profile setup with and without the GPU Cache/Acceleration in every release from 14.3 to 12.5, and it's the same, at least on this computer. Thanks for the feedback.

Oh, wait! Are you on a Mac? If so, I'm wondering if this is an OS thing. Just gathering info.

Using a Surface Pro 7 when I tested it. Windows 11.
